Poker Chip Tricks

Poker chip tricks add a little style and flair to any poker game even if your playing online poker at home you can still feel a bit more of the real game action if your twirling and flicking some real clay poker chips.

The Twirl

You need two or more poker chips for this trick. Four is ideal to start with. Place the chips in a stack with your finger tips around the edges. Lift half of the chips up and place them to the side so that you now have two smaller stacks. Keeping your middle, ring and little finger in place to support the new stack, reach back with the thumb and forefinger to pick up the bottom half of the original stack, lift it up and place it on top of the new stack/top chips of the original stack. Repeat several times to create a rolling effect.

The Scoop

Place around ten chips on the table in a row from left to right in front of you. The chip on the left is flat, with the edge of next chip resting on top of it's right rim. The right edge of this second chip is on the table and the left edge of the next chip is on top of it's rim and so on so they look like a row of dominos that has fallen over or roofing slates ( each with a rim tucked under the edge of the next ).  Holding a chip flat between your thumb and forefinger sweep across the tops of the row of chips from right to left so that you make a clicking noise as you hit the next chip. Go slightly beyond the chip on the left, then with the chip now on the table sweep backwards into the chips to scoop them up into a stack in your half-cupped right hand.

The Finger Flip

Take hold of a three chip stack at the edges with your finger tips. Have your thumb and forefinger just over the midpoint so if your hand were palm down you would be holding them towards the top of the disc formed by the stack. Drawing your middle finger back out of the way, slide your ring finger up towards your forefinger. Putting pressure on the inner two of the three chips with your ring finger and on the third chip with your forefinger pull the two chips down so that the third chip moves up and apart from them. Place your middle finger tip in the valley formed between the two lower chips and the single upper chip pull the forefinger towards you so that it pivots over the edge of the lower two chips, coming round so that it is now on the other side of them Use your little finger as a stop to prevent the moving third chip to fall past the other two and onto the table.

The Thumb Flip

Take hold of a stack of five or six chips between your forefinger and ring finger using the middle finger to support the stack in position. Placing the pad of your thumb on the edge of the outside chip, move the thumb upwards rolling the chip out of position. When the chip is half out of the stack pull it towards yourself so that the chip is brought  over and onto the top edges of the chip stack with your thumb flat on the top surface of the moving chip holding it against the stack. Continue to bring the chip over the stack so that it drops back into the stack on the other side from where it started from.
